Facade available for freeware download

By Sean – Wed, 2005 – 07 – 20 10:03

This may be old news, but I just got around to finally downloading the long awaited and much talked about Procedural Arts creation, Facade. It is a free download available at several places. I downloaded my copy from gamespot.com, but other locations are listed at www.proceduralarts.com. I am excited about finally getting to play it and I'll try to do a follow up with my impressions of what the New York Times called "the future of video games." While I very much doubt that Facade represents the future of video games, as someone interested in interactive narrative, I have high hopes for this project, and encourage others to download "the world's first fully-realized interactive drama." But be warned: unless you have a high spped connection, downloading the game is not practical. Facade is 800 MB.

Thanks for the head's up, Sean. I found a torrent for the file and have it on the queue. If it's any good, I'll definitely post a review! :-)

I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago and have been waiting until I have more time to spend with it before posting my impressions. So far, I'm impressed with it for a variety of reasons, most of those reasons are of the egg-headed "possibilities of interactivity" type. In other words, it does some pretty amazing things computationally, which you might only appreciate if your familiar with its history. I can see how if it were delivered out of context, some gamers would have a hard time knowing what to do with it and might reject it as "boring". I'm interested to hear what you all think, though.
